Mid week in Naivasha by derrick milimo

We wake up at 3.30am to leave the house at 4.30am. We ended up leaving at 5am.

At 6.20am we arrive at Hells gate national park, to my surprise we are the first visitors at the park. It was just us and nature… and the sunrise did not disappoint!

as we drive around the park looking for subjects to shoot, we notice these birds chirping at their reflection…probably they have never seen themselves in the mirror!

Then we notice this couple in a distance…

The sun is getting hot and now it time to put the camera down and enjoy, before heading back home.

Naro Moru River Lodge by derrick milimo

Karibu to my first blogpost. Yeiiii!!!

Let me tell you about a trip we had to Naro Moru River Lodge. I must say, this was one of those random trips. We really didn't put much thought to it. Fast rewind, my wife was on her annual leave and on Tuesday mid morning,we were like... why don't we drive to Nanyuki for a few days? She was like...okay.

Mimi huyo... kwa mtandao! (went online and googled) for a place with good a view of Mt Kenya. After spending a good number of hours online, scouting vacation spots, we settled for Naro Moru River Lodge (website). Their rates were really pocket friendly (for us at least it was).

Wednesday we made our maiden trip. The ride was smooth thanks to the good roads from Nairobi all the way Naro Moru town, however the stretch between Nyeri Town and Kiganjo...kona nazo!! (there are, some really, sharp turns, descent and ascend). Eventually, we got there, some few minutes to 6pm.

We were received by Henry, such a nice fellow. Tina, the girl at the front desk, such a nice lady (team mafisi stick to your lanes).  After we checked in at the front desk, Henry, showed us to our room, and on our way, we immediately fell in love with the place.

The ambiance of the indigenous trees, the sweet scent of dense fresh air, the tranquility of the cabin like rooms, you can literally hear the wood burning in the fire place, at the comfort of your bed. Did I mention that most of the rooms have a fireplace ? Yes they do! This is what keeps you from freezing to death, if you forgot to carry your spouse.

By day you can seat by the river bank and let the sounds of the river flowing, mute everything out, as you dive into the pages of your favorite book, and by night, the sounds of the gashing Naro Moru River will ease you to sleep like a lullaby.
